An employee in Schedules A, B or S becomes eligible for a merit step increase on the
first day of the twenty-seventh work week of each calendar year unless the employee
is a probationary employee or completed probation after March 31st of the current
calendar year, in which case he or she is eligible for a step increase six (6) months
after his or her original date of employment or upon successful completion of probation,
or unless the employee reaches his or her maximum step, in which case he or she shall
receive no further step increases. If the step increase is approved by the City Manager,
it will be effective on that date. "Step increase" as used in this Section shall not
include a general wage increase. In the event an employee is reinstated to his or
her former position voluntarily or because of unsatisfactory performance during a
probationary period, he or she shall be returned to the labor grade, step and pay
that he or she would normally have been at if he or she had not been promoted.
