§ 9-6-20. Control of Discharge Required.

  • If any wastewaters or wastes are discharged or are proposed to be discharged to the public sewers, containing excessive or possessing excessive characteristics as defined herein, the City may:

    (a)

    Reject the wastewaters or the wastes;

    (b)

    Require any, all, or any combination of the following:

    (1)

    Pretreatment of wastewaters or wastes be provided to modify them to an acceptable condition for discharge to the public sewers.

    (2)

    Control over the quantities and rates of discharge of the wastewaters or the wastes.

    (3)

    Payment to cover the added costs of handling and treating the wastes.

    If the City permits the pretreatment or equalization of waste flows, the design and installation of the plants and equipment shall be subject to review by the City and the NHDES, and subject to the requirements of all applicable codes, ordinances, and laws. Such facilities shall not be connected to the sanitary sewer until said approval is obtained in writing. Approval shall not relieve the owner of the responsibility of only discharging treated waste that meets the requirements of this Article. Plans and specifications for a proposed treatment facility shall be based upon the design of a professional engineer registered in New Hampshire.
