§ 5-4-10. Inspection of Electric Wires.

  • The Board, composed of the Director of Public Works, the Planning Director, and the City Manager, shall examine and inspect all electrical wires and insulation thereof, and all fixtures and appliances pertaining thereto, erected upon or over any public street, highway, sidewalk, building, common, within the limits of the City; and such Board shall have full power and authority to order any and all needed repairs of such wires, poles, and other fixtures, and to further require of the owners of such wires or other fixtures the introduction and use of safety and protective devices in accordance with generally accepted standards of construction for the protection of property to the public. They shall also, from time to time, make such inspections as may be reasonably necessary to ascertain that said poles, wires, and other fixtures and appliances are in a safe and suitable condition; and in cases of defective or dangerous wires they shall be authorized to take such immediate action with reference thereto as may be necessary for the public safety. They shall also cause to be removed all useless or "dead wires," so-called, and require the use of guard wires wherever needed, and all construction of additional poles and wires provided for under this Article shall be under their supervision and direction; and they shall further enforce all orders provided for in this Article, or which may from time to time hereafter be imposed by the City Council with reference to electric wires.
