§ 18-1-16. Handicapped Parking.

  • No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle in any parking place, whether on public or private property, specifically designated for the physically handicapped by means of a sign stating that the space is reserved for the physically handicapped or displaying the wheelchair symbol as defined in RSA 275-C:9(I)(a), unless that person has special number plates, a number decal or a tag or card issued pursuant to RSA 261:88. Public parking spaces reserved for the physically handicapped are described in Schedule XVIII, attached to and made part of these regulations. A person parking a vehicle in a parking space described in Schedule XVIII shall be subject to all time limitations and other restrictions applicable to that space.

    (a)

    Identification of Handicapped Parking Spaces. Each handicapped parking space whether on public or private property shall be identified by a sign at each space which:

    (1)

    States that the space is reserved for the physically handicapped; or

    (2)

    Displays the wheelchair symbol as defined in RSA 275-C:9(I)(a); or

    (3)

    Combines the wheelchair symbol and wording stating that the space is reserved for the physically handicapped.

    (b)

    Temporary Handicapped Parking. The City Manager is authorized to designate, during special events, spaces as temporarily reserved for the physically handicapped. When spaces so designated are appropriately marked, no person shall stop, stand, or park a vehicle in such space unless that person is physically handicapped.
